EM Cosmetics Fine Liner Brow Pencil Review

Hoping I’m not too late to the party, Michelle Phan has launched another product for EM Cosmetics! I was so excited try these because as some of you may know, I love the products that she has put out since revamping EM Cosmetics (See my reviews here and here). This time it’s for brows! Here’s my full review on the EM Cosmetics Fine Liner Brow Pencil!

What is the EM Cosmetics Fine Liner Brow Pencil?

The Fine Liner Brow Pencil is part of EM Cosmetics Brow ID Collection – which includes the fine liner brow pencil, the micro-fluff sculpting, and brow cream. The last two, I really am not used to using so I don’t think my review on those would be valid. I have been using brow pencils though, so I figured it would be good for me to compare the ones I’ve been using to this one.

Their website boasts that the Fine Liner Brow Pencil has a buildable formula, and has an oval shaped pencil which will help with mimicking the look of brow hairs. It also states that it is cruelty free.

Now let me just say that for me, brows are the hardest to do when it comes to make up. So I’m still a noob when it comes to applying brows. However, I do find that I have more control with thinner brow pencils than thicker ones.

The Packaging

I bought 2 Fine Liner Brow Pencils – one in light taupe and one in brunette. It didn’t come in the usual box that I’m used to, but with such tiny products, it’s good to know that EM Cosmetics isn’t being wasteful. It came in a black padded envelope, wrapped in black tissue paper as always.

The boxes for each Fine Liner Brow Pencil are rectangular, much like boxes for their lip products – only a bit thinner. It’s sleek, simple and classic.

Once you take out the pencils from the boxes, they are white with black trimmings and gold letterings. Cute! You get the pencil on one side, and the spoolie on the other side.

Time to Try Them On!

Ok, so I typically like to go pretty light on my brows so I’ve only tried the Light Taupe. But as I don’t have a range of colors because momma don’t have the funds, I am going to let you know now that swatches are not going to be on this review.

Here are my befores and afters!  Gimme a break!

The Review

I figure the best way to review this is to compare my experience with other brow pencils. Before this, my holy grail was Benefit’s “Precisely, My Brow Pencil Ultra Fine Shape & Define” Pencil.

The Amount of Product and Price

EM Cosmetics’ Fine Liner Brow Pencil has 0.001 oz of product for $18.00. Compared to Benefit which has 0.002 oz of product for $24.00.

The Tip

EM Cosmetics has an oval tip, while Benefit’s Brow pencil has a circular tip. The oval tip helps with filling in the brows, but also helps to create the hair-like strokes depending on which angle you choose to use.

The Formula

The formula of the Fine Liner Brow Pencil is also nice – similar to Benefit’s in that it’s not too soft, and is pretty buildable. As you can see in the pictures, the light taupe is pretty pigmented and I was able to build it up nicely to cover the patches of my eyebrow that was not there.

The Staying Power

I had it on for about 4-5 hours the day I tried it out. And I must add that I don’t usually touch my brow area, so it stayed on pretty well. It doesn’t say on the website that it’s long lasting, but it definitely stayed on pretty long.

img_6506

The Bottom Line

To be perfectly honest, I didn’t see much difference between my last favorite and the Fine Liner Brow Pencil. Benefit has twice the amount of product but EM cosmetics is 3/4 the price (so technically Benefit is cheaper).

So at this point, it’s really just really your preference. For me, I like to support Michelle Phan’s brand. But I’m also pretty practical. So I may stick to the “cheaper” alternative but will definitely not say no if I ever get them in the mail… Just saying.

Thanks for reading and have a great rest of the day!!

EM Cosmetics Infinite Lip Clouds Review

The EM Cosmetics Infinite Lip Clouds have been in the market for a while now. However, I have yet to write a review about it because I wasn’t blogging at the time that they came out. I did a review on the True Gloss lippies which I loved and decided to write a review on these awesome Infinite Lip Clouds as well. (Update! Review for the Fine Liner Brow Pencil here!)

Disclaimer: EM Cosmetics was kind enough to provide me these Lip Clouds to review (Thank you EM cosmetics!!). However, I am not affiliated with them, nor is this review sponsored in any way.

What are EM Cosmetics Infinite Lip Clouds?

The website claims that Infinite Lip Clouds are long wearing lip crèmes which are “light and fluffy” with “rich color payoffs.” These lippies have a matte finish, applies as a “vibrant liquid lipstick, and wears to a beautiful stain.” Michelle Phan states that she was inspired to create this formula after the beauty community requested a “non-drying liquid lipstick.”

The formula consists of blending the “line-filling properties of a lip liner with the color saturation of a liquid lipstick.” It’s also cruelty-free and vegan!

EM Cosmetics Infinite Lip Clouds Packaging

For those interested, it comes in EM Cosmetics signature black and white box. As you open the box, you see Michelle’s saying at the end of all of her youtube videos – a simple “Good luck.” The makeup is always wrapped in the classic black tissue paper.

Once you unwrap it, EM cosmetics Infinite Lip Clouds are packaged in a simple black and white cardboard box. The color and the name of the glosses are on a sticker that runs from the top of the cardboard box to the side.  The stickers are actually really easy to peel off and none of the gunk gets on the box if people care about that stuff.

Then the lip clouds. Black lids with a golden EM logo on top and see through cylindrical container. Classy and chic.

Time to Try Them On!

I have 4 out of the 9 shades. I sort of knew what colors go well with my skin so I picked the 4 that I thought would be good for me. Faded Clementine, Rose Nude, Violent Magenta, and Crimson Red.

Faded Clementine

The website describes this lip cloud as a “soft tangerine.” I would probably describe this as more of a slightly burnt orange. Not quite as dark as a burnt orange but definitely has some brownish properties to it.

Rose Nude

The website describes this one as a “light pink, nude.” If Aurora Pink in True Gloss had a matte version, this would be it. It has the “my lips but better” vibe to it. I love this because I can wear for an everyday look.

Crimson Red

EM Cosmetics describes this color as a “true blue-red.” Supposedly, I read somewhere that this is one of the more popular type of reds so I guess people get this more often. Not sure how it is on my skin tone, but oh well, there you go.

Violent Magenta

A “deep magenta” is how this lip cloud is described in their website. I picked this color because I wanted to see if I could pull off a dark matte lippie. I’m not too sure… but I definitely like the color payoff. For a more bold look, two coats actually does the job. The pictures below show how my lips look like after one coat.

The Review

I’ll go ahead and break it down to the promises that EM cosmetics made for these Lip Clouds. I do want to say that I usually don’t like liquid lips because most matte formulas that I’ve had are drying and just not comfortable. These… are a different story.

“Light and Fluffy… with rich color payoffs”

Yes, yes, and yes. The formula is light and fluffy. It’s like a whipped cream kind of texture. Feels very light when you put on your lips.

The color payoff is amazing. Truly, very pigmented. I sometimes expect matte formulas to be a little patchy but even the darker colored ones exceed my expectations.

“Vibrant liquid lipstick, and wears to a beautiful stain”

I mean I only have 4, but the 4 that I have are great colors. The darker colors are striking and even the one nude color I have stands out. I often think of “vibrant” as bright colors, so I don’t think that describes these Lip Clouds. Because they are matte, they are not as vibrant as say, the True Glosses. However, the colors are great and then fades into a stain on your lips as time passes.

The pictures below show you my lips without the lippie and my lips after I wiped off the Violent Magenta Shade. You can see that there’s definitely a stain effect to it. That’s with wiping it off too.

“Non-drying”

True story. Legit, this is not drying at all. It’s matte and my lips don’t really feel like I have anything on them. Then I smack my lips together and realize I’m still wearing a lippie – but my lips feel soft and NOT dry.

“Line-filling”

I’m not so sure about this because I still see my lip lines. However, I’m not sure if this is really a claim or if this is just how MP described her formula.

Other factors

The application. Unlike, the True Gloss, the Lip Clouds have more of that typical doe-foot applicator. Still very easy to use and I can use the tip to line my lips since I’m lazy and I don’t have lip liners.

Transfer. Most matte lippies are transfer-proof. EM Cosmetics did not claim for these Lip Clouds to be transfer-proof. There is a little transfer after it dries, but most of the color stays on the lips.

Bottom Line

I would definitely recommend EM Cosmetics Infinite Lip Clouds. For those who want a matte finish but don’t want dry lips, this is the formula for you. It’s so comfortable to wear and the color payoff is amazeballs. It’s $16 per lippie and it’s worth every dollar. Just try it and see.

EM Cosmetics True Gloss Review

Before I begin, I want to just put it out there again, that I am not a make up guru. However, I am a fan of makeup. I love the way makeup just makes me feel more put together and, not to be vain, but it does make me feel better about myself when my makeup is on point during the day. I also want to point out that I don’t like lip glosses. But I do love me some Michelle Phan. So when I heard that EM cosmetics True Gloss lip glosses were coming out, I had to give them a try!

Another disclaimer is that this review is not sponsored in any way, nor am I affiliated with any of the products I mention. I bought these with my own mula so there you go. =)

What is EM Cosmetics True Gloss?

Their website states that EM Cosmetics True Gloss are lip glosses that are comfortable to wear, have vivid shades, and have brilliant shine. It also states that these glosses “subtly plumps the lips, has a luminous finish and stays vibrant throughout the day.”

The formula has a gel base that maintains the shine and adds moisture to your lips. It also has a peptide complex that stimulate collagen production and repairs damage, so your lips can look smoother and fuller. Lastly, it has vitamins E and C, “and emollients to keep lips feeling soft, conditioned, and comfortable.”

Lastly, their website states that you can expect their glosses to have long lasting shine, with vibrant colors, without stickiness and/or discomfort.

So naturally, I try them! That and because I’m just a fan of Michelle Phan. I mean yeah, her line before was not the best, but since she’s revamped EM Cosmetics, I have yet to be disappointed!

EM Cosmetics True Gloss Packaging

Ok, so packaging seems to be real important when it comes to beauty gurus. For me, I don’t really care as long as the product works. But for those interested, it comes in EM Cosmetics signature black and white box. As you open the box, you see Michelle’s saying at the end of all of her youtube videos – a simple “Good luck.” The makeup is always wrapped in the classic black tissue paper.

Once you unwrap it, EM Cosmetics True Gloss is packaged in a simple white cardboard box. The color and the name of the glosses are on a sticker that runs from the top of the cardboard box to the side.  The stickers are actually really easy to peel off and none of the gunk gets on the box if people care about that stuff.

Then the glosses. White lids with a golden top and see through cylindrical container. That’s the best I can describe it. Gimme a break! English is my second language okaaayyy?? Here are pictures of the 4 that I bought.

Time to Try Them On!

I bought 4 out of the 12 shades. I sort of knew what colors go well with my skin so I picked the 4 that I thought would be good for me. Aurora Pink, Lotus Blossom, Red Jasper, and Ruby Wine. I tried to take pictures of the same shade in different lighting so you can truly see the colors and how they look.

Aurora Pink

This is the first one I bought. I wasn’t sure if I was going to like it, so I initially just bought 1. After that, I decided to buy 3 more shades! The website describes Aurora Pink as a “sheer cool pink.” Since it said “sheer” I decided to go for it because I wanted something that wouldn’t be too obvious. I basically wanted a “my lips but better” look. It delivered.

Lotus Blossom

The website describes this one as a “warm pink.” Since Aurora Pink did so well for me, I decided to try another pink.  This wasn’t as shiny, but not necessarily a bad thing. I liked that it was a little muted down.

Red Jasper

EM Cosmetics describes this color as a “muted terracotta.” What’s a terracotta? Yeah, I had to look it up. It’s supposedly a brownish red or brownish orange earthenware. Ok… so here’s what it looked like on me. Definitely a little more brownish orange than a brownish red. Though it could be my lighting. I still liked it.

Ruby Wine

A “bright burgundy” is how this lip gloss is described in their website. I wanted something a little va-va-voom for mama’s night out. Like that ever happens, but hey, at least when I wear it, I’ll feel like I went out somewhere fancy schmancy. That’s all that matters! Definitely more high shine than the other ones I tried. I like!

The Review

So I basically love it and would buy the whole collection if I had the money. This is why someone needs to adopt me already or make me some kind of beauty guru so I can get free stuff. I mean I don’t even have to get tons of free stuff, just EM Cosmetics will suffice. But again, I digress… I do that in my blogs you see… I’m going to go into what EM Cosmetics True Gloss promises and let you know if they delivered.

“Comfortable… Adds Moisture To Lips”

The comfort. You guys, I literally hate lip glosses. For me they are sticky and uncomfortable and the ones I’ve tried have always made my lips feel icky. Grant it, I haven’t tried many because I don’t like them… BUT… I can tell you that I really do like these. They are very comfortable to wear. It’s true that it’s not sticky like other glosses. I mean real talk, when you smack your lips together, you know there’s something on your lips. But throughout the day, my lips just feel hydrated which feels nice since I usually have chapped lips.

“Vivid Shades, Brilliant Shine”

I mean I only have 4, but the 4 that I have are great colors. They are all shiny to an extent, but not too shiny so it’s very wearable and makes your lips look nice and classy.

“Long Lasting… stays vibrant throughout the day”

After eating my breakfast, I find that it’s actually still on my lips. My breakfast is typically overnight oats if that matters to anyone. And when I eat it,  I don’t try to save the lip gloss. I just go for it. So it’s nice that it stayed one even after I ate. It doesn’t last the whole day. It does leave a nice “tint” on my lips after it wear off though so that’s a plus. I would say it lasted several hours before losing it’s luster.

So yeah, it doesn’t really stay vibrant throughout the day. Maybe if you eat without touching your lips??

“Subtly Plumps”

I’m not sure about this. I don’t think it does. But I’m really ok with that. See  below. The first picture is my lips without the True Gloss.

Other factors

The application. Ok, so since I don’t wear lip gloss, I usually have a hard time putting them on. But for some reason, I found it easy to put these on. The applicator is almost like a doe-foot applicator, but with a pointy end (is there a name for this type of applicator??? see? not a make up guru). This helped me sharpen the edges after I’ve applied the lippie.

Transfer. They don’t claim to be transfer-proof and good thing they didn’t. These babies TUH-RANS-FER. Big time. So I mean try not to get it on your shirt or whatever. On the upside, it does seem to leave a nice hint of color after some of it has come off your lips. I still like =P.

Bottom Line

I would definitely recommend EM Cosmetics True Gloss. I just liked the way it made my lips feel hydrated and the colors I happened to pick compliments my skin tone nicely. No, they are not cheap, but I think that $17 per gloss is not bad compared to others out there.

Thanks for reading and have a great rest of the day!!
